Professor Cathy Abbott appointed to NC3Rs Board

Professor Cathy Abbott, Professor of Mammalian Molecular Genetics and Group Leader at CGEM, joins the Board of the National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement & Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs).

The NC3R was established to "accelerate progress in replacing, reducing, and improving the use of animals in research and testing." They do this by funding research, supporting innovation, and collaborating with industry. They also fund and train early career researchers and provide tools and training for researchers at all stages to improve reproducibility.

Professor Abbott was appointed to the NC3Rs Board of Directors for the next three years after a competitive selection process. The NC3Rs Board is composed of scientific experts and animal welfare professionals. The Board's role is to guide strategy and plan activities to achieve NC3Rs' goals.

Cathy Abbott is a Professor of Mammalian Molecular Genetics and group leader at CGEM. Her work focuses on the translational elongation factor eEF1A2 and its role in neurological disorders. For the past five years she has been Chair of the Animal Welfare and Ethical Review Body (AWERB) at the University of Edinburgh and previously served on the Grants and Training Fellowships committees for the NC3Rs.
